The Silk Road connected western and eastern lands from 500 BC to the 16th century. Merchants would travel for two or three years from Genoa to China in search of precious fabrics. Along the way, caravans would stop in lands that now make up Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. These stops included the ancient cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and Termez. Today, you can still explore these cities and experience the echoes of the past, as camels once laden with silk, porcelain, bronze tableware, furs, and spices made their way through the area. The radiant cities are adorned with sparkling domes and blend all shades of blue under an azure sky, making for an unforgettable experience.
